What is it?

Mailchimp is a newsletter manager for small businesses that allows you to send professional email marketing campaigns for free.

How does it work?

After you sign up you can start setting up your list. You can import contacts from a csv or database file or can add them manually. After that you can start creating your campaign.  You can choose from normal html emails, plain text but you can also select a/b split campaign which allows you to test different headings and messages. Another feature is to set up a campaign from an rss news feed, which is useful if you just want to send a round-up of your blog posts. After making your selection from several tracking options like Google Analytics, you can start to create your email from one of the layouts or templates, or you can import your own html. If you select a template you can then change the colours in the next screen. Once you’re happy with the email you can choose when you want to send it.

Mail Chimp allows you to send emails, track them, send autoresponders, and surveys. You can include forms on your website that automatically add new subscribers to your list.

What’s free?

You can set up an account for free which will give you a subscriber list of 500 and 3000 sends and all the feutures of the paid versions. In addition they offer pay as you go plans or monthly subscriptions.
