part 4 – how commercial is your keyword

Posted in: web marketing- Dec 18, 2010 No Comments

In our previous posts on keyword research we discussed how important keyword research is to be succesful online.

This last instalment of this series may not apply to everyone. But it is useful for those who are thinking of starting a new business for which search engine rankings are important. Or for those who want to build a new website with the purpose of making money online.

If your primary goal for ranking high in the search engines is to earn money it is highly critical that your target keyword phrase has commercial value. If you get a lot of visitors to your website but noone buys anything it may mean that your keyword phrase is not commercial enough. People don’t buy your product or service online or people are mainly after information.

How can you find out if your targeted keyphrase has any commercial value?

Google runs a succesful advertising program called Adwords. With their Adwords research tool you can find out what the average cost per click is for a certain keyword. In general, the higher the cost per click for a keyword the more commercial the keyword is. All of this is clearly explained in the below video.

All the best,

Sylvia
